Lovely Lady

Other than my highly eventful shopping excursion this past weekend, I spent the rest of my free time studying, save a few hours Saturday night. Armed with broccoli soup and gummy bears, my friend Karen, the model/dancer I photographed, came over to test me on vocabulary flash cards while we edited her pictures from the weekend before. That lasted for about 40 minutes, till we whipped out the jewelry supplies and started crafting while watching "How I Met your Mother".

Since I have been too lost in a sea of words I have never heard before and math equations I haven't looked at for years to take pictures of myself, I am going to share the pictures of Karen for your viewing pleasure.

In the Name of Love

So I went to the Taj Mahal yesterday, and it definitely lived up to my expectations. I just loved hearing the story of the King building this in the name of love. I'm sure I got ripped off a few times, as I'm not familiar with the currency yet, but I had an excellent guide, bought a really cool traveling backgammon set (I'm obsessed with the game) and took pictures with about 1000 Indian people! One person would ask for me to be in their picture, and then a line would form. I think a lot of people would be bothered by this, but I'm used to it as I am the rare breed of blonde in Asia, so I just smiled away.

PS- Sorry I look less than spectacular, I had had three hours sleep, a 4:45am wake up call, and a 4 hour car ride.

Bye Bye Baby...

I'm gonna miss you so.

Sorry for the lack of posts, but my photographer, and more importantly my boyfriend, left Thailand this week to move back home. Dating someone from another country seriously complicates life (visas being a major factor), and while he has been living here for the last 6 months, we are trying to work towards a long term future, which, for the moment, requires some separation so we can reunite in a few months.

But man, it's no fun!

and I realized ultimately we are doing this for the right reasons}

gentlemen and thais prefer blondes

There is a building not too far from my house which has caught my attention every single time I go by it. Completely desolate and gutted, covered in graffiti, rubble and trash, with enormous rugs hanging along the front, something about it is strikingly beautiful.

I finally stopped there this thursday to take some pictures, and was asked to pose for a group of photographers returning from a wedding. At first they tried to sneakily take my photo, but it took under a minute for the brave one in light green to ask if I would let them photograph me, and then I was surrounded! Surprisingly, this isn't the first time something like this has happened to me- in Asia, a true blonde is sort of like an exotic and hard to find creature, and therefore I hold some appeal to those who don't share my characteristics. Needless to say, it was very fun, especially in such a great shoot location!

real life swan lake

One of the best things about living in Bangkok is that the city is always full of wonderful surprises. I work right next to this beautiful lake, but it took me ages to notice the fun swan and duck boats available for paddling around right in the middle of a bustling city. Aren't the boats just beautiful? I also like this park because there are always tons and tons of people jogging around the lake at all times of the day (although how they run outside in the steaming Thailand weather is beyond me), and it sort of reminds me of home, with all the people running through Golden Gate Park.Are there any interesting spots you have discovered in your own city or right on your front door?
